This as you can see is Sassy.
Isn't he beautiful. He is a twenty-one pound Siamese, Ragdoll cross. At least
that is what the S.P.C.A. that I got him from thinks he is. I should have known he
was going to be a large cat because he was already as big as a normal cat when I got him
and he was only four months old. He has two favorite places to sleep. On me or on any
piece of black clothing I own. Needless to say, we own three lint brushes. It never ceases
to amaze me when I flop into bed and he comes running from anywhere in the house to lay
down on me and pat me with his paw(with ONE claw sticking out) and meow until I pet him.
Can anyone tell me why cats think that the moment we are ready to go to bed, is the
perfect time for them to get some attention? If I work the night shift, he follows me
around the house meowing when I get home, until I crawl into bed. And once again, out
comes that claw. I know
it sounds like I'm complaining about him, but to tell you the truth, I have problems
sleeping on vacations because I don't have him sleping on me(or crushing me). Not one
person has walked into my house for the first time and not made a comment about how large
Sassy is. Another one of his personalty quirks is, you can carry on a conversation
with him for a half an hour if you want to. He'll sit there and meow forever. He's like
me. He has something to say about everything. And don't buy him cat toys. He is
much too dignified to play with them and you're just wasting your money. But when he
starts chasing those imaginary toys or mice or whatever it is he thinks he sees, the best
thing to do is just sit down, pull your feet up off the floor and hope that whatver he's
chasing doesn't take a path leading over top of you. One thing I cannot figure out
about Sassy, is his obsession with our exercise equipment. As you can see from this picture, he likes to hang out
around our weight bench. Twister doesn't think it's coincidence. She's pretty sure
Sassy's bulking up for their next confrontation. Sassy is my baby plain and simple.
He can get away with anything and everything and usually does. I've owned many cats in my
lifetime, but I can honestly say that Sassy is one of the most entertaing. He is our
"gentle giant" and I'm very thankful for that "gentle" part when it's
time to give him a pill, or put medication in his ear. We love everything about him and
can't imagine what life would be like without him.

September 22, 1999.-Sassy had an operation on Monday. Our vet found a
growth is his ear that could turn out to be cancer. He was able to remove the entire
growth and the section of ear that it was connected to. He is encouraged by the fact that
the growth was smaller than he thinks it should have been if it was cancer, but we are
still waiting for the results back from the lab. Sassy is a little sore right now, and he
was nicknamed Phantom of the Opera at the vet because they had to shave half of his head,
but other than looking a little goofy, he seems to be doing well. Again he worked his way
into someone's heart. Everyone at the vet office loves him. After everything they
put him through, they said he was wonderful to work with. I was scratching his good ear
while our vet was demonstrating how to clean the bad one. The lady holding him started to
laugh because he was actually purring. What a cat. He never ceases to amaze me and
others around him. I know that some people think I am crazy for spending \\$250.00 for an
operation for my cat, but I was fully prepared to pay more and drive six hours from home
to the veterinary university if that was the way our vet recommended we go. I love Sassy
and will do what it takes to look after him and keep him with us.
