I love my car. What more can I say? Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you
that I am obsessive when it comes to my car. It's a 1995 Mustang GT and my favorite thing
about it is EVERYTHING. Even though I will never buy another black vehicle(anyone who owns
one knows how hard they are to keep clean), I wouldn't change the color of it for
anything, which is obvious because I had to have it painted last year after a little
incident with tar(OK, a BIG incident) and I kept it black. I love the fact that it's a
stick shift. Driving it is a great way to relieve stress which is something I need to do
considering where I work. I haven't gotten any speeding tickets yet, but that's because of
pure luck. But I am allowed one since Rod has gotten his first in it.
A year after I bought Blackie, I had a CD player, new speakers, and subs installed. Rod
thinks I'm going to go deaf. If I do, at least I'll have a great time doing it.
There is a shelf in our garage totally covered with what I call my car supplies.
Tire cleaner, wax, car wash, upholstery cleaner, scott towels, chamois, wash mitt,
bucket, etc. I also keep a constant supply of change on hand for the car wash for
the days when I don't have time to give it the works at home. Rod can do nothing but
shake his head.
The day I finally picked up my car, I was a nervous wreck. I wasn't used to driving
a stick, nor driving in the city, and the fact that I was driving my dream car in this
situation didn't help my nerves much. I believe music can make the moment.
When I finally made it out onto the open highway, I felt comfortable enough to use
some of my attention to turn on the radio. "Black Cars Look Better In The
Shade" was playing. I couldn't have picked a better song for that moment.
Once again music made the moment and trust me when I say that they really do look
better in the shade. Diana had been nice enough to take me up to the city to
pick up Blackie and was following me in her truck. She got to witness my first
moments testing just what my dream car could do. It does a lot more now. It
kicks up gravel and leaves the driveway sideways for one. I don't play in the curves
by my house much anymore since Steve and Krystal had their accident there.
Winter isn't much fun for me since my car stays in the garage, but when I bring it out
every Spring, it feels like the first day I got it all over again. I really think
Mother Nature has something against me and my car. For the last three years, I
waited patiently for a nice long stretch without snow and then went through the motion of
changing our insurance and registration only to have it snow the first day I took my car
to work. Trust me when I say this car does not handle well in snow.
This year I did managed to convince Rod to insure all three of our vehicles for
those first few months of Spring and last few months of Fall. That way I can still
get in a few more days of driving. I almost went insane the year we parked it in
October when we had our first snow and then we didn't get any more until mid December.
